SM Squared is an Accounting and Business Advisory firm based in Gauteng , which was founded in 2013, with the primary focus of meeting the needs of high growth businesses in Africa
David Stoltz and Evan Matthee are the current founder directors of the company who offer a very hands on service to each and every client. They are supported by a strong team of bookkeepers, accounts specialists and also an IT professional. Together this team offer streamlined solutions, which meet the needs of a very diversified client base.
Companies that engage SM Squared have access to a skilled and high performing team of professionals, who drive the creation of an efficient back office finance operation that ensures each client becomes a transformed entity. Our services range from basic transactional bookkeeping services to strategically focused CFO services.

David is a solutions-focused finance professional, who brings a unique perspective to the Board and management team through a combination of valuable financial and business leadership skills, with over 15 years experience in both start up and large corporate environments. David has an entrepreneurial spirit and has driven the development and management of a number of businesses within the technology and media advertising sectors.
David is also currently a director and part-time CFO of Supa Pesa, a mobile VAS provider in the Telecoms industry, but also a business that provides a great reference for SM Squared’s full circle service offering.
SM Squared started out supporting Supa Pesa’s back-office finance needs in 2014, which included a fully outsourced accounting and management accounts reporting solution, but also the part-time CFO services, which David provided with a focus on the company’s capital roadmap, including focussed M&A support. Supa Pesa was acquired by Via Media, a Blue Label Telecoms Group company, in 2015 and David has remained on as their part-time CFO.
In addition, David is also a director of Maizonn, a company that was born out of SM Squared in 2016 after various M&A success stories. Maizonn specialises in the raising of finance, with a strong focus on commercial and legal services that help clients navigate the generally long, windy and often bumpy fund raising road.
David qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in South Africa, before spending 13 years in the UK, where he honed his business, finance and entreprenerial skills. David returned to South Africa at the end of 2012 and a few months later after a meeting with Evan, the SM Squared business was born.
David’s key skills include a sound aptitude for financial creativity in business planning, a strong work ethic as well as the ability to remain extremely calm and measured under pressure.

Evan is an experienced Chartered Accountant that has held various senior financial management and chief financial officer positions over the last 15 years. He held various CFO positions with companies like Altech Netstar, ADT Security and G4S Security. More recently he has been a CFO for an information, communication and technology business.
Evan qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in South Africa before spending time on a short term secondment in the United States, he joined Altech Netstar in South Africa, where he was later appointed as Financial Director. Evan also spend time with multinationals like ADT Security and G4S Security where he was exposed to large multinational companies listed on exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.
Evan is also a registered Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and holds a Masters degree in Taxation.
Evan is passionate about supporting and building businesses based on his extensive experience working in larger corporate businesses.
